Assessment of the correlation between lifestyle and quality of sleep in elderly who ‎referred to retirement center in RASHT, ‎‏2007‏

Introduction: Survey about the issues and problems related to elderly in order to improve &lrm;their quality of life of this increasing population has become a universal concern. Even though &lrm;aging is a natural process but many effective factors such as life style, rest and sleep pattern, &lrm;stresses and confronting them can affect this process. Identifying the effective factors is &lrm;necessary for improving elderly quality of life.&lrm; Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between life style and quality of &lrm;sleep in elderly who refer to retirement center.&lrm; &nbsp;Results: Research findings showed a significant relation between life style and quality of &lrm;sleep in samples in ages &lrm;&rlm;65-70&rlm;&lrm;(P<&lrm;&rlm;0.033&rlm;&lrm;), more than &lrm;&rlm;70&rlm;&lrm; years old (P<&lrm;&rlm;0.001&rlm;&lrm;), males (P<&lrm;&rlm;0.012&rlm;&lrm;), &lrm;females(P<&lrm;&rlm;0.007&rlm;&lrm;), married samples(P<&lrm;&rlm;0.014&rlm;&lrm;), unmarried samples (P<&lrm;&rlm;0.019&rlm;&lrm;), education less &lrm;than diploma(P<&lrm;&rlm;0.001&rlm;&lrm;), samples without a second occupation(P<&lrm;&rlm;0.02&rlm;&lrm;), less than &lrm;&rlm;4&rlm;&lrm; family &lrm;members(P<&lrm;&rlm;0.001&rlm;&lrm;). Personal housing (P<&lrm;&rlm;0.004&rlm;&lrm;), separate bedroom (P<&lrm;&rlm;0.01&rlm;&lrm;), retired from &lrm;social security (p<&lrm;&rlm;0.008&rlm;&lrm;), retired from medical universities (P<&lrm;&rlm;0.06&rlm;&lrm;) and presence of pain &lrm;&lrm;(P<&lrm;&rlm;0.003&rlm;&lrm;) and pain during day (P<&lrm;&rlm;0.012&rlm;&lrm;).&lrm; Conclusions: In attention to above findings, it can be concluded that elderly can improve &lrm;their quality of sleep by changing and correcting their behavioral factors such as diet, activity &lrm;and rest, smoking and &hellip;&lrm;
